SIG Pro
First polymer-frame SIG Sauer with interchangeable grips and accessory rail.
Last updated
The SIG Pro is a series of semi-automatic pistols manufactured by SIG Sauer in Exeter, New Hampshire. It was the first polymer-frame handgun from SIG Sauer and one of the first pistols to feature a built-in universal accessory rail and interchangeable grips. The series was marketed as a lightweight and compact alternative to legacy SIG Sauer handguns for the law enforcement market.
Variants
The SIG Pro series comprises two generations and five variants, all hammer-fired DA/SA pistols with a decocker and no manual safety unless noted. First-generation offerings use a proprietary SIG accessory rail. The SP 2340, introduced in June 1998 as a .40 S&W service pistol, is chambered in .357 SIG or .40 S&W. The SP 2009, chambered in 9×19mm, entered production about a year later; one model (P2009-9-BMS) adds a manual safety and shortened trigger. The SPC 2009 is a compact version of the SP 2009 in 9×19mm.
Second-generation variants feature a Picatinny rail and a visibly different trigger guard. The SP 2022, chambered in 9×19mm, .357 SIG or .40 S&W, was selected in 2002 as a French police service pistol with a planned 20-year service life. Some SP 2022 models (e.g., E2022-9-BSS-MS) are available with a manual safety. The SPC 2022 is a compact version of the SP 2009 in 9×19mm.
