SIG 522

A .22 LR training rifle patterned after the SIG 55x series.

Last updated

The SIG Sauer 522 LR is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 LR and operates via blowback. It is modeled after the SIG 55x series of centerfire rifles and is intended as a training rifle, sharing nearly identical controls and features. Unlike its centerfire counterparts, it lacks an adjustable gas block and instead uses a mock gas block that SIG calls a storage container.

Variants

The SIG 522 Classic features a standard polymer handguard, a Picatinny rail on top of the receiver, and a folding and telescoping stock, along with an M16A2-style bird cage flash hider. It can be equipped with SIG Sauer iron sights or a SIG-branded mini red dot sight. The 522 SWAT adds a full-length Picatinny quad rail forward stock while retaining the same flash hider and weight as the Classic.

The 522 Commando has a folding stock and a mock suppressor attached to 1/2 × 28 TPI threads, with standard non-railed polymer handguards and a weight of 2.78 kg. The 522 SWAT Commando combines the mock suppressor of the Commando with a shorter version of the SWAT's aluminum railed front end, weighing the same 2.78 kg. The newest variant, the SIG Sauer 522 Target, uses an aluminum tube front end that is free floated from the barrel, a 508 mm barrel, and a variable power scope on the top Picatinny rail, weighing about 3.18 kg.
