SIG Sauer P238
Compact single-action .380 ACP pistol modeled after the M1911.
Last updated
The SIG Sauer P238 is a compact .380 ACP caliber, single-action pistol introduced by SIG Sauer at the 2009 SHOT Show. It is modeled after the M1911, similar to the Colt Mustang.
Design
The P238 uses fluted polymer grip panels and has an all-metal frame, competing with plastic-framed pistols like the Ruger LCP and Kel-Tec P-3AT. Its frame is aluminum and its slide is stainless steel, except the HD model which is all stainless steel. Initially offered with standard sights and night sights as an option, all current production models include night sights as standard. Since 2012, many variants feature an ambidextrous thumb safety either standard or as an option.
Recall
In July 2009, SIG Sauer issued a recall of all P238s within serial number range DA000501 to DA003216, calling it a Mandatory Safety Upgrade. The recall was due to a small number of pistols built with defective manual safety levers, creating a remote possibility of unintentional discharge, though no such injuries had occurred. Pistols with serial numbers beginning 27Axxxxxx were not affected.
