Lore & Background
In 1987 Flamengo won the Copa União, the championship organised that year by the Clube dos 13 when the CBF could not stage one. Since 2019 the CBF has listed that tournament among the Brazilian titles. The 2009 title came after Flamengo were tenth at mid-season; they won it with 67 points, clinching it with a 2–1 comeback against Grêmio in the final round.
In 2019 Flamengo clinched the league a day after winning the Copa Libertadores, the first Brazilian league and continental double since Santos in 1963. In 2020 they retained it on the last day under Rogério Ceni, one point ahead of Internacional.
