Señorella and the Glass Huarache

A Mexican Cinderella tale with a glass sandal.

Señorella and the Glass Huarache is a 1964 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes short. Hawley Pratt directed it and also handled the layouts, while John W. Dunn wrote the script. It came out on August 1, 1964.

In the cartoon, a man at a cantina tells his friend a Mexican take on the Cinderella story. The heroine, Leetle Señorella, is forced to do all the chores by her "strapmother" and "strapsisters." They refuse to let her attend Prince Don Jose Miguel's big fiesta. Her fairy godmother appears, giving her a fine outfit and a carriage pulled by mules that were once cockroaches. At the party, the prince is unimpressed by the other girls, including Señorella's stepsisters, but falls for her instantly. They tango together, and his father, Don Miguel, approves. At midnight, Señorella flees, leaving behind her glass huarache, a Mexican sandal.

Prince Don Jose has every girl in the kingdom try on the shoe to find his mystery love. None fit. Before he reaches Señorella's house, the strapmother ties her up and throws her outside with the pigs to keep her hidden. The stepsisters try the huarache, but their feet are too big. The prince spots a small foot sticking out a window, fits the shoe, and marries Señorella. The storyteller then reveals his own story didn't end so well: when his friend asks what happened to the strapmother, the man says he married her—and she drags him home.

The short is included on disc 2 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 5 DVD set.
