The Following

The 2016 expansion that takes Kyle Crane into the countryside in search of a cure.

Dying Light: The Following is an expansion pack for Dying Light by Techland, originally published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and released on 9 February 2016 for Linux, Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It adds a new story campaign, controllable vehicles and a map the size of all the base game's maps combined, and was free to season pass holders. It launched alongside Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition, which bundles the base game, the expansion and most of the DLC and added a Legendary difficulty mode.

Lore & Background

Kyle Crane learns from a dying survivor of a supposed cure and, with Antizin running short, travels to the countryside, where many survivors have joined the Children of the Sun, a cult that worships the Mother as the source of their immunity. The Faceless admit the immunity comes from an elixir that only suppresses the infection. At the cult's dam Crane finds Rais's bandits and the Faceless dead and discovers that the Mother, once Jasmine, a Colonel's wife, has been turned into a sentient volatile by the elixir held in the dam's secret military facility. In the ending that leads into Dying Light: The Beast, Crane's own exposure turns him into a sentient volatile. The success of the base game led Techland to pause its project Hellraid to make more Dying Light content, and some mechanics of The Following had been planned for the original game.
