GRE Operatives
The Global Relief Effort, whose undercover agent is sent into Harran.
The Global Relief Effort (GRE) is the organisation that assists the survivors trapped in quarantined Harran by regularly airdropping supplies, including the drug Antizin. Its undercover operative Kyle Crane is airdropped into the city to find Kadir "Rais" Suleiman and retrieve a stolen file holding vital data on the virus, and on arrival must choose between completing his mission and helping the survivors.
Lore & Background
The GRE orders Crane to destroy an Antizin airdrop and buy the drug from Rais instead to confirm his identity, later halts the supply drops and refuses to help the Tower, after which Crane cuts ties with it. Rais's file proves the GRE intends to weaponise the virus rather than develop a cure, and in the finale the GRE asks Crane to retrieve Dr. Zere's research so it can claim to be working on a cure; Crane gives it to Dr. Camden instead. According to Dying Light 2, the GRE eventually developed a vaccine for the Harran Virus but kept experimenting on the virus in secret as a biological weapon, and in 2021 the mutated THV strain escaped a GRE lab and started a second, deadlier pandemic.
