A magic cloud that only an honest person can ride.

Known in Japan as the Kinto'un, the Flying Nimbus is a legendary golden cloud that serves as a mode of transportation in the Dragon Ball series. It becomes Goku's primary source of flight travel across the world, and in the film Curse of the Blood Rubies it is described as a magic cloud which only an honest person can ride. As warriors grow stronger and learn to fly using their own Ki, they often outgrow the need for the Nimbus, but it remains a symbol of the series' early adventures.

Lore & Background

The Flying Nimbus is introduced as a magical cloud owned by Master Roshi, the Turtle Hermit. It is first used by Goku during his early adventures with Bulma, allowing him to travel across great distances in search of the Dragon Balls. In Curse of the Blood Rubies, Roshi summons the cloud to find out who is telling the truth, since only an honest person can ride it. After training with Kami, Goku learns to fly by the technique Bukū-jutsu and uses the Nimbus cloud less frequently.
