The Z Fighters' journey in FighterZ begins when Goku possesses the player's soul to find his missing allies. After rescuing Krillin and battling Cell, they learn Android 21 is behind the power-suppressing waves. In the 'Super Warrior Arc,' Beerus and Whis refuse to intervene as deities, leaving Goku, Bulma, and the Z Fighters to confront 21 on their own. They travel to the Sacred World of the Kai, combining their strength to obliterate 21 temporarily. However, questions remain about her origins. The 'Enemy Warrior Arc' sees the player linked to Freeza, who recruits Nappa, the Ginyu Force, and Cell to fight clones and eventually join forces with Goku against 21. Together, they destroy 21 again using Bulma's machine.

In Their Own Story

The narrative takes a darker turn in 'Android 21 Arc,' where the player possesses Android 18 after she is kidnapped by 16. As battles progress, 21 becomes increasingly unstable due to cells going berserk, forcing her good and evil halves to split. Evil 21 devours Cell and gains control of the power suppressor, becoming unstoppable. Good 21 sacrifices herself by pushing her corrupted half into Goku's Spirit Bomb on the Sacred World of the Kai, killing them both. With the threat neutralized, Goku plans to request 21's reincarnation from King Yemma and return the player to their original body. Throughout these arcs, characters like Android 16 play pivotal roles, repairing 16, revealing betrayals, and ultimately sealing his fate by sacrificing himself to stop 21.

Players form teams of three characters with unique assists, switching between them or calling for 'Assist' moves to extend combos. Universal mechanics include the 'Vanish Attack' for teleportation behind opponents, 'Dragon Rush' to break guards, and 'Super Dash' to home in on foes. The 'Shenron System' lets players collect Dragon Balls via light autocombos or multi-hit combos; assembling all seven grants wishes like reviving allies or granting a second Sparking Blast. Season 3 introduced three Assist types and enhanced Sparking Blast properties when teammates are down. Victory requires defeating all three enemy characters, with time runs favoring the team sustaining less damage. The game features ranking systems in arcade and online modes, rewarding consistent wins.
