Lore & Background
Angels are beings of very high rank who serve their universe's God of Destruction as attendants and guides, watching over them and keeping them in check. Whis is shown as unmatched in power and speed. Beerus himself names Whis as the strongest opponent he ever faced.
Reader's Guide
Toriyama named Whis as a pun on whisky, following his mistaken belief that Beerus's name came from "beer". Whis is voiced by Masakazu Morita in Japanese and Ian Sinclair in the Funimation dub.
In Resurrection 'F', Vegeta trains away from Earth with Whis, and Goku reaches the blue-haired evolution of Super Saiyan God under Whis's tutelage. Whis and the other Angels share an autonomous martial arts ability that reacts to attacks without the mind interfering; it is foreshadowed in Whis's training of the two Saiyans, and Goku briefly reaches it in the Tournament of Power as Ultra Instinct.
