Super Saiyan Blue

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan: the blue-haired form beyond Super Saiyan God that Goku and Vegeta reach while training with Whis.

Super Saiyan Blue, also known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, is a transformation achieved by using and controlling God Ki. In the series, Goku and Vegeta master this form after training with Whis on Beerus's world. It is first used during the Golden Frieza Saga, where Goku and Vegeta defeat Frieza after he achieves his Golden transformation. The form represents a fusion of divine energy and the Super Saiyan state, requiring precise control rather than emotional outbursts.

Lore & Background

The form originates from the Saiyans' training with Whis, the Angel assistant and teacher of Beerus. Goku and Vegeta train with Whis during the Golden Frieza Saga, learning to harness God Ki. This allows them to achieve Super Saiyan Blue, a transformation described as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. The form is used extensively in later arcs, including the Universe 6 Saga, the Future Trunks Saga, and the Universe Survival Saga. During the Tournament of Power, Goku attains a further evolution called Ultra Instinct -Sign- and later Mastered Ultra Instinct, which operates on a different principle of unconscious combat.

Reader's Guide

This form originates from mastering Super Saiyan God while retaining the Super Saiyan state. Goku and Vegeta first achieved it after intense training with Whis on Beerus' planet. Goku later combines the perfect energy control of Super Saiyan Blue with his older technique, the Kaiō-ken. The form drains stamina rapidly at first, requiring users to limit battle duration until mastery is reached. Later refinements allow for sustained combat against universe-threatening foes like Frieza or Jiren.
