Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is a brain tumor that occurs most frequently in children and young adults, with an average age at diagnosis typically around 20–30 years. It usually develops within the supratentorial region of the brain, is generally located superficially in the cerebral hemispheres, and involves the leptomeninges. These tumors are formed through the mitosis of astrocytes and are found in the temporal, frontal, or parietal lobes; in about 20% of cases, tumors exist in more than one lobe.
