Team history

The Prairie Dogs began play in 1995 at Abilene Christian University's Crutcher Scott Field. Under manager Charlie Kerfeld, they finished last with a 40-60 record. In 1996, new manager Phil Stephenson led the team to a League Championship with a 67-31 mark. Barry Jones took over in 1997, and the Dogs returned to last place at 36-52. Jones rallied the club to fourth place in 1998 with a 39-45 record. For 1999, Dan Madsen replaced Jones, who moved to the Ozark Mountain Ducks, and the Dogs finished third at 46-38. The team returned in 2012 as part of the North American League's southern division, playing at Walt Driggers Field on the McMurry University campus. They went 34-53 and did not play their final eight road games due to financial and attendance difficulties. The club announced in early 2013 that it would not return but hoped to play in 2014; it did not.
