History

The original Alexandria Aces began in 1934 as a member of the Evangeline League and ceased operations with that league in 1942 due to World War II. The 1939 Aces featured future Detroit Tigers stars Hal Newhouser and Virgil Trucks on the pitching staff. After the war the Aces and the league were revived, but operations ended again in 1957. Alexandria was the only city to field a team every year the Evangeline League operated. The Aces won the Evangeline pennant in 1936 and 1940. Baseball returned in 1972 when the Aces served as the San Diego Padres' AA farm club for four years; notable players included All-Star pitcher Randy Jones and longtime Cleveland Indians first baseman John Grubb, and Duke Snider managed the team. The Aces became a charter member of the independent Texas–Louisiana League in 1994 and won back-to-back titles before the league renamed to the Central Baseball League. In 2006 the Aces won the inaugural United League championship and repeated in 2007. In 2009 the Aces joined the Continental Baseball League and became CBL Champions by beating the Big Bend Cowboys 2–0. The Aces left the CBL in 2010 due to travel costs and joined the Texas Collegiate League. On March 12, 2011 the team announced a logo change, the first since 1994. In 2013 the Aces joined United League Baseball; with a 24–20 record and in second place, the league cancelled the remaining games, citing low attendance averaging 333 fans per game. Four scheduled road games were forfeited, giving the Aces an official record of 24-24.
