King Tower
The central tower that decides the match.
The King Tower is the central defensive structure in Clash Royale that each player must protect.[1][2] Destroying the opponent's King Tower results in an immediate victory.[3][4] The King Tower only begins attacking enemy troops after one of its Princess Towers has been eliminated or the King Tower itself receives damage.[5]

Geography and history
Clash Royale was developed by the Finnish company Supercell, based on a prototype called The Summoners.[6] Development of the concept resumed in 2014 under the name Wizard Arena before being set in the Clash of Clans world.[6][7] The game was designed for mobile phones rather than tablets, unlike Clash of Clans.[8] "The Royals" concept drove the creation of new character designs, which included the Kings that appear in the King Towers.[9]
On January 4, 2016, Clash Royale had a soft launch for iOS devices in nine specific countries.[10] March 2, 2016 marked the date when Clash Royale became available worldwide on both iOS and Android platforms.[10] A global PC release of the game occurred on October 22, 2023.[10] In April 2025, the chest timer system was eliminated and replaced by gacha-style lucky drop mechanics.[11]
What the cited sources add
Hodapp explained that upgrading cards awards experience that increases the player's "King level," making towers more powerful.[4] A temporary game mode from June 2024 swapped the King Tower for a Goblin Queen.[12]
