It is the second direct-to-video Alvin and the Chipmunks film, following Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein.[1] Bagdasarian Productions and Universal Cartoon Studios created the 2000 direct-to-video animated musical comedy horror film "Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman".[1] This movie is the second direct-to-video feature for the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, following the earlier film "Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein".[1]

Making and release
The film was the third of three Universal Cartoon Studios productions animated overseas by Tama Productions in Tokyo, Japan.[1] Universal Studios Home Video released the film on VHS on August 29, 2000.[2] That VHS release was part of the "Haunted House of Fun" promotion alongside Monster Mash and Archie's Weird Mysteries: Archie and the Riverdale Vampires.[2] The film was re-released with a different cover on March 11, 2008.[2]
As part of Universal Studios Home Video's "Haunted House of Fun" promotion, the film came out on VHS on August 29, 2000, together with "Monster Mash" and "Archie's Weird Mysteries: Archie and the Riverdale Vampires".[2] The "Monster Bash Fun Pack" DVD set, which included this film, was released on September 7, 2004.[2] A two-disc DVD set pairing this movie with "Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein" appeared on September 4, 2007, under the title "A Scare-riffic Double Feature".[2] On March 11, 2008, that same two-disc set was re-released with a different cover design.[2]
