Sakura Cards

The Clow Cards reborn under Sakura's own magic after she became their true master.

The Sakura Cards are the magical cards at the heart of the later part of Cardcaptor Sakura, the Clamp manga serialized in Nakayoshi from 1996 to 2000. They began life as the Clow Cards, a set made by the sorcerer Clow Reed and sealed in a book in Sakura Kinomoto's basement. Each card holds its own power and takes on a different form when activated, and only someone with innate magic can use them. After Sakura became their rightful master, she found the old cards no longer answered her, and she had to convert them one by one into Sakura Cards bound to her own power.

Background

The story starts when ten-year-old Sakura accidentally scatters the Clow Cards across Tomoeda. Cerberus, called Kero, guardian of the cards, chooses her to recover them, and she seals each one after defeating its magical form, while Syaoran Li competes and later helps. With every card collected, the second guardian Yue tests her, and with help from her teacher Kaho Mizuki she passes and becomes master. Then Eriol Hiiragizawa, the reincarnation of Clow Reed, arrives and triggers strange events. Sakura suddenly cannot use the Clow Cards, transforms her wand, and changes the cards into Sakura Cards as each disturbance forces her to use them. Eriol later explains he pushed the conversion so the cards would not lose their magic.
