The Clow Cards
The magic cards Clow Reed created, each with its own spirit and power.
The Clow Cards are the set of magical cards at the heart of Cardcaptor Sakura, created by and named after the sorcerer Clow Reed. Each card has its own unique ability and takes an alternate form when activated. Ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto accidentally releases them from a book in her basement, and the cards' guardian Cerberus chooses her to retrieve them.

Background
As Sakura finds each card she battles its magical personification and defeats it by sealing it away. Once she has captured them all, the second guardian Yue tests whether she is worthy of being their true master; with the help of her teacher Kaho Mizuki she passes and becomes the new master of the Clow Cards. In the second half of the story Eriol Hiiragizawa forces her to convert the cards into Sakura Cards so they can draw on her magic rather than Clow's and not lose their power. The manga has 19 cards; the anime expands them to 52, and Sakura creates a 53rd card, Hope, in the second film. All the cards fall under six major cards, among them the Fiery, the Watery, the Earthy, the Windy and the Light. In the Clear Card arc, after the Sakura Cards turn blank, new Clear Cards appear, created unknowingly by Sakura herself as her power grows.
