Lore & Background
Hong Kong is established as Syaoran Li's home after he leaves Tomoeda. Sakura and Syaoran entered into a long-distance relationship during his time back in Hong Kong, a period explored in the bonus manga story "Until We Meet Again." This story focuses on the long-distance relationship Sakura and Syaoran entered into and maintained during his time back in Hong Kong. The city is also where Syaoran's mother Yelan lives; she tells him of a prophecy that if Sakura's growing powers are left unchecked they could bring her disaster. Working with Eriol and the Sakura Cards, Syaoran takes possession of them for Sakura's safety. Hong Kong thus serves as a place of both emotional separation and critical magical counsel, shaping Syaoran's actions in the Clear Card arc.
