Facts from the source article.

Format

The series uses fixed cameras placed around the hotel complex, rather than a camera crew, to capture events. This approach differs from the 1997 BBC docu-soap Hotel, which provided similar backstage access to the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. The second and third series aired in the 8pm Sunday slot on Channel 4 and featured The Grosvenor Hotel in Torquay, run by Mark Jenkins. A fourth series was commissioned on 25 May 2014, set at The Grosvenor's rival, The Cavendish. Mark Jenkins appears as Entertainment Manager, having worked at The Cavendish for five weeks during summer 2014. The fourth series began airing on 28 December 2014 in the 8pm slot, with the final episode on 15 February 2015 airing at 7pm.

Transmission and production

Series one, consisting of eight episodes, was filmed at the Damson Dene Hotel in the Lake District over five weeks in summer 2010 and first broadcast in 2011. The second series was filmed at the Grosvenor Hotel in Torquay, owned by manager Mark Jenkins, and ran from Sunday 1 January 2012 to 26 February 2012 with eight episodes plus The Hotel at Christmas episode. Due to its popularity, a third series, also at the Grosvenor, began on 30 December 2012 and comprised eight episodes filmed throughout summer 2012. In the last episode, Mark Jenkins sold The Grosvenor to the Richardson Hotel Group. In May 2014, a fourth series was commissioned, filmed at The Cavendish Hotel in Torquay during July and August 2014, with Jenkins employed as entertainments manager for five weeks. This series of eight episodes aired from 28 December 2014 to 15 February 2015.
