History

Business Daily first aired on 21 September 1987, arriving as part of Channel 4's move to extend its weekday schedule after ITV Schools programming shifted away from ITV. The half-hour show initially went out at midday, then moved to 12.30 pm on 28 March 1988, a slot it kept until its lunchtime run ended. S4C also carried the programme, initially live; after a gap in autumn 1988 when it was not shown, S4C later broadcast it with a one-hour delay. In April 1989, Business Daily became part of the new breakfast lineup The Channel Four Daily, appearing as four short editions of six to eight minutes each. By 1990, the first breakfast edition had become a separate eight-minute programme at 6.20 am, airing before The Channel Four Daily. The lunchtime version stopped on 26 June 1992, but the breakfast editions continued until The Channel Four Daily itself finished on 25 September 1992.

Presenters and reporters

Susannah Simons and Damian Green were the two main presenters of Business Daily. The lead presenter anchored Monday through Thursday, while a reporter hosted Friday’s edition. Dermot Murnaghan initially presented the breakfast programmes before becoming a main presenter on The Channel 4 Daily. The show’s reporters and contributors included Mickey Clark, who joined the presenter in the studio to discuss daily market activity.
