Hyuga Clan

The Hyuga Clan is a family of the fictional village of Konohagakure. Historically led by Hiashi Hyuga, the clan operated under a strict hierarchy separating the Main House from the Branch Family. The character Hinata Hyuga serves as a central figure representing the clan's evolution; born the eldest daughter of Hiashi, she was initially the heiress before her younger sister Hanabi took that role due to perceived leadership struggles during training.

Lore & Background

The clan's history is marked by a rigid internal structure. Hiashi, as the elder twin brother, served as the head of the Main House, while his twin Hizashi was demoted to the Branch Family with the sole purpose of serving the upper branch. This system faced a crisis, the Hyuga Affair, when Hinata was nearly kidnapped as a child and saved by her father; it ended with Hizashi willingly taking Hiashi's place. Later, Hiashi began to doubt Hinata's ability to lead after observing her struggles during training sessions, eventually demoting her as heiress in favor of Hanabi. The clan structure faced its most significant turning point during the Fourth Great Ninja War when Neji Hyuga, a member of the Branch Family, sacrificed himself to protect Naruto and Hinata from the Ten-Tails.

Reader's Guide

The Hyuga lineage turns on the split between the Main House and the Branch Family. The Main House, led by Hiashi, held authority while the Branch Family served them. Key figures include Hinata; her younger sister Hanabi, who replaced her as heiress; and their cousin Neji, a member of the branch house. The clan has its own style of combat, the Gentle Fist. In the modern era depicted in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (2016), the legacy continues through Hinata's family.
