Chocho Akimichi

The comedic counterweight to Sarada Uchiha's serious path, blending Akimichi power with an unshakeable, contrasting spirit.

Chocho Akimichi is the daughter of Choji Akimichi and Karui and a student at Konoha's ninja academy. Kishimoto set her personality against Sarada's: Sarada's story was dark, so Chocho was meant to keep it comical and entertaining.

Lore & Background

Masashi Kishimoto conceived Chocho specifically to offset the darker tone of Sarada Uchiha's character development in the spin-off Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring (2015). During creation, Kishimoto intended to give certain feminine traits he researched for Sarada to Chocho instead, ensuring a balance between serious drama and comedy. Within the story, Chocho's presence allows for moments of levity amidst Sarada's family-focused arcs, particularly during scenes where the two interact. Her role is integral to the narrative structure, providing the necessary comedic relief that Kishimoto felt was essential to keep readers engaged while navigating Sarada's more somber experiences.

Reader's Guide

Chocho Akimichi is a ninja of Konohagakure who serves on Moegi's team with Shikadai and Inojin. Her character was deliberately crafted by Masashi Kishimoto to balance the dark narrative of Sarada's spin-off story, providing entertainment through their contrasting personalities. She is voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi in Japanese and by Colleen Villard in the English dub. During a competition between academy students, Boruto Uzumaki saves her.
