Borussia Dortmund was founded on 19 December 1909 by young men who were unhappy playing football in the Trinity Youth, a Catholic church group run by the local parish priest.

Reader's Guide
The priest, Father Dewald, tried to stop the founding meeting in a room of the pub Zum Wildschutz but was kept out at the door. The name Borussia, Latin for Prussia, was taken from a beer brewed nearby.
