Schwarz-Gelb, black and yellow, are the colours of Borussia Dortmund's crest, and they give the club its nickname, Die Schwarzgelben. The team first played in black and yellow stripes in 1913, four years after the club was founded.

The colours reach the stadium too: when the Westfalenstadion was enlarged, the inner roof supports were replaced by outside pylons, and these were painted yellow to match the club.
