Dissolved, refounded as BVB, and champions by 1956.
Like every organisation in Germany, Borussia was dissolved by the Allied occupation authorities after the Second World War, to separate the country's institutions from the Nazi past. A short-lived merger with Werksportgemeinschaft Hoesch and Freier Sportverein 98 as Sportgemeinschaft Borussia von 1898 followed, but the club returned as Ballspiel-Verein Borussia (BVB).

Reader's Guide
As BVB the club reached its first national league final in 1949, finishing runners-up. Its first national title followed in 1956 with a 4-2 win over Karlsruher SC, and a year later it beat Hamburger SV 4-1 to win a second.
