Making and release
After university, Brumm moved to London and worked as an animator on series including Charlie and Lola, Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, and Tinga Tinga Tales.[5] Brumm conceived Bluey while working on Charlie and Lola alongside Paterson in London, swapping pig characters for dogs and changing the father's personality.[6] He produced a one-minute sample of a kid-focused Bluey in 2016, which Ludo Studio helped expand into a five-minute pilot.[6][7] Working with his wife Suzy, Brumm produced the debut season of Bluey, which consisted of 52 episodes each running seven minutes; this season first aired in Australia during 2018.[6][7]
Hulu ordered a half-hour adult animated comedy titled Deano on February 20, 2026, with Brumm serving as an executive producer.[8][9] The series Deano centers on an 8-year-old boy who is mischievous but good-hearted, combining the disorder of a contemporary family with sharp satire.[8][9]
What the cited sources add
A Guardian profile notes that Brumm worked on Charlie and Lola from 2005 to 2008 and returned to Brisbane in 2009.[7] Brumm decided that in Bluey, "the hunkering down and the playing would be the adventure".[7] Brumm's wife Suzy is a storyboard artist on Bluey and works on a spinoff book series.[10] The original Bluey in Brumm's life was a blue heeler dog that "used to hate my little brother," according to Brumm.[10]
Brumm's younger brother Dan is the sound designer and voice of Uncle Stripe on Bluey.[10] Brumm was named Griffith University's Outstanding Alumnus in October 2021 and a Queensland Great in June 2023.[11][12] In 2016, using his company Studio Joho, Brumm produced a one-minute Bluey pilot during his free time.[10]
