Tyrell Corporation Collapse

How the maker of the replicants went bankrupt.

The Tyrell Corporation did not fall with its founder. Eldon Tyrell was killed by Roy Batty in November 2019, yet the company went on to introduce the Nexus-8 the following year. It collapsed after several revolts by those replicants and the Blackout of 2022.

Lore & Background

The Nexus-8 had an open-ended lifespan and went into mass production, and a new wave of replicant rebellions followed. In 2022 the replicants Iggy and Trixie attacked the Tyrell archives while an electromagnetic pulse blacked out Los Angeles: the magnetic backups were blown up and most records about replicants were lost. Replicant production was banned and the Tyrell Corporation went bankrupt.

Reader's Guide

Niander Wallace, whose genetically modified crops had ended a global food crisis, bought out the bankrupt company. In 2036 he showed lawmakers his obedient Nexus-9 and got the ban lifted. One thing was lost for good: the secret of replicant reproduction, which Tyrell had built into Rachael, died with him.
