Los Angeles

In 2099 Los Angeles, Replicants rule and humans are second-class citizens.

Los Angeles in 2099 is a city transformed by a Replicant uprising, where the power dynamics have flipped entirely. Once second-class citizens, Replicants are now the power brokers, while humans have become second-class citizens. The city serves as the primary setting for the miniseries Blade Runner 2099, which follows Olwen, a Replicant Blade Runner nearing the end of her life, and her partner Cora, a human pretending to be a Replicant, as they hunt down a gang of rogue Replicants.

Reader's Guide

Los Angeles in Blade Runner 2099 is not the rain-soaked, neon-drenched city of the earlier films. Instead, showrunner Silka Luisa has defined its look as "sunshine noir," suggesting a brighter, more unforgiving environment. The city is the stage for a power struggle between Replicants and humans, following a Replicant uprising that has made Replicants the dominant class. The series was filmed mainly at Barrandov Studios in Prague, with additional filming in Barcelona. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 25, 2026, with all eight episodes releasing simultaneously.
