Gwen's Anodite Awakening
From spellbook magic to the mana of her Anodite grandmother.
Gwen Tennyson's powers turn out to be alien in origin: she inherited them from her paternal grandmother Verdona, an Anodite, an energy being from the planet Anodyne. The discovery comes in the Alien Force episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?", and Gwen first takes on her full Anodite form in "War of the Worlds".
Lore & Background
In the original series Gwen's abilities appear as light blue energy, and she casts spells from Charmcaster's spellbook. Later Kevin tells her that her powers come from an alien bloodline, which she refuses to believe until she meets Verdona. Verdona offers to take her to Anodyne and train her, and urges her to leave her human body behind; Gwen chooses to stay on Earth with Ben and Kevin. She seems to be the only one of Verdona's human descendants to have inherited the power.
Reader's Guide
Gwen releases her inner Anodite a second time in Ultimate Alien, against Zombozo, after he tries to kill Ben's mother Sandra; she grows to gigantic size and frightens him off. In that series she also learns that her cousin Sunny is an Anodite. In her Anodite form her body turns dark purple and her long hair glows pink and white; she later learns to take the form at will.
