Bayonetta's hair is central to how she fights. She uses it to shapeshift and to summon demons, and her strongest attacks call up parts of Madama Butterfly and other demons through her hair.

Her outfit is made of her hair, an idea the developers chose because they felt a witch would draw her power from it; its texture was designed to look like leather. When she uses her hair for the large summoned attacks it is pulled away from her body, which led IGN to describe the game as action with a heavy helping of fan service.
