The club was founded in 1921 in Charleville-Mézières. It moved to Charleville in 1958, and after the merger of Charleville and Mézières in 1966, became Étoile of Charleville-Mézières. The club disappeared from the top French level, then rose to National 2 (NM2) in 1999, NM1 in 2004, and Pro B in 2005 before declining to NM1 after the 2005–2006 season. At the end of the 2007–2008 season, it returned to Pro B by finishing second in NM1, and during the 2008–2009 season it surprised by integrating into the Pro B playoffs while having just returned from the National level.

The club originally played at Salle Dubois-Crancé, then moved to Salle Bayard from 2011 onward, until a shared facility with 2,903 seats became available in Hall B of the exhibition center. This new hall, named the Caisse d’Epargne Arena, was inaugurated in September 2015. The team was demoted to NM1 after the 2010–11 season, promoted back to Pro B at the end of the 2011–12 season by winning the NM1 playoff final against Blois, then spent only one season in Pro B before being demoted again for the 2013–14 season. It returned to Pro B for the 2014–15 season despite a late announcement of its accession. After six wins and twenty-eight losses in the 2017–2018 Pro B season, the club was relegated to NM1, and in summer 2019 was administratively relegated to NM2. Six years later, the club returned to National 1, granted by the FFBB following its 2023/2024 season in National 2 (third position with 18 wins and 8 losses) and the precarious financial situation of many elite clubs.
