Lore & Background

The club was founded in 1891 in the parish 'St. Genevieve Great Careers.' Various activities led to the declaration in 1907 of a multi-sports association affiliated to the Sports Championnet FGSPF. The first basketball game was identified in 1914. The basketball section gradually developed, becoming Champion of France in 1945 and providing three players to the French team for the 1948 London Olympic Games.

Reader's Guide

Championnet Sports participated in the first five seasons of the French basketball championship (1950–1954) and then descended to Division Excellence in the 1954–55 season. It returned to the National Division for one season in 1955–56 and reappeared there one last time in 1961–62. The association then refused to follow the evolution of basketball toward professionalism, and the basketball section fell into anonymity. The Championnet Sports Association remains, practicing other sporting, recreational, and social inclusion activities.
