Union Mons-Hainaut was founded in 1959 as Quaregnon and later moved to Mons. The club has been a mainstay in the Belgian top division since the 1990–91 season, accumulating 36 consecutive years in the highest tier. Its first major success came in the 2005–06 season, when it won the Belgian Cup and reached the Belgian league finals. Two years later, under head coach Chris Finch, the club reached the EuroChallenge final in 2008, finishing as runner-up. The club won its second Belgian Cup in 2011 and also claimed the Belgian Supercup that same year.
