Kosh is the Vorlon Ambassador to Babylon 5, first appearing in the pilot movie Babylon 5: The Gathering. He is described as the fourth and final alien ambassador to arrive at the station, representing the Vorlon Empire. Kosh arrives two days ahead of schedule and, less than a minute after boarding the station, falls ill from apparent poisoning. A mind scan of the unconscious Kosh, performed by Lyta Alexander, reveals an image of Commander Sinclair poisoning him, though this is later discovered to be a changeling net disguise used by a Minbari assassin. The Vorlon delegation drops all charges against Sinclair once his innocence is proven. Kosh's secrecy is a running theme in the show; the explanation for cast changes between the pilot and series is that characters who saw Kosh outside his encounter suit had to be removed from duty.

Kosh is the ambassador from the Vorlon Empire, one of the five major spacefaring races that gather at Babylon 5. The station was built as a neutral venue for discussing and resolving issues between humans, Narn, Centauri, Minbari, and Vorlons. Kosh arrives two days ahead of schedule in the pilot, and within a minute of boarding, he falls ill from apparent poisoning. Dr. Kyle and Lt. Cmdr. Takashima persuade Lyta Alexander to perform an unauthorized mind scan on the unconscious Kosh to prevent his death and a potential Vorlon attack.
The scan shows Sinclair poisoning Kosh, but this is later revealed to be a changeling net disguise used by a Minbari assassin from the warrior caste, seeking retribution for Sinclair's role in the Earth–Minbari War ten years earlier. The Vorlon delegation drops all charges after Sinclair's innocence is proven. Kosh's secrecy is a running theme; the pilot's cast changes are explained by characters seeing Kosh outside his encounter suit, necessitating their removal from duty.
