Overview
Australia's Got Talent is a competition open to performers of any age, with the grand prize ranging from one hundred thousand to two hundred and fifty thousand Australian dollars. Each season moves through auditions, semi-finals, and a final, though only selected moments from the auditions are broadcast. Some seasons held auditions across multiple cities. After the auditions, the judges narrow the pool of successful acts to roughly forty for the semi-finals.
In most seasons, the semi-finals relied on a public vote, with the finalists chosen through a mix of audience and judge decisions. During the first season's semi-finals, each judge signalled approval or rejection with a tick or a cross. Season nine removed public voting from the semi-finals entirely. The show's logo for its first, seventh, and ninth seasons matches the look of America's Got Talent, while the logo for seasons two through six and season eight mirrors that of Britain's Got Talent.
Judges and hosts
The original three judges were Dannii Minogue, Red Symons and Tom Burlinson. For the second series, all judges returned, though Minogue was absent for numerous episodes due to filming The X Factor in the United Kingdom. In January 2010, the judging panel underwent a new line-up to accommodate Minogue's pregnancy. Kyle Sandilands and Brian McFadden replaced Symons and Burlinson from season four.
All judges returned for the fifth and sixth series. When the show moved to the Nine Network in 2013, Sandilands returned as a judge, while Minogue and McFadden were axed; Timomatic, Geri Halliwell and Dawn French joined the panel. For season eight in 2016, the judges were Kelly Osbourne, Ian "Dicko" Dickson, Sophie Monk and Eddie Perfect. In 2019, the show returned to the Seven Network with Ricki-Lee Coulter as host.
The tenth season in 2022 featured judges Shane Jacobson, Kate Ritchie, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon. Todd McKenney served as a temporary replacement for Kyle Sandilands at the Melbourne auditions and filled in for Brian McFadden during the second final showdown of the sixth season.
