Background

That updated edition is the one Atlus localized, putting it on the Nintendo eShop in North America on May 12, 2015, and in Europe on July 2, 2015. Players control characters from the series, or one of their own creation, and rely on three-dimensional maneuver gear to attack the Titans, the giants that hunt and devour humans. The most recent version offers a single-player story mode, local and online multiplayer and Circle Pad Pro support.

The game received predominantly negative reviews, with a 4.9 from IGN and a score of 46/100 on Metacritic. GameSpot awarded it 4.0 out of 10, Nintendo World Report 3 out of ten and USgamer 1.5 out of 5. GameSpot's verdict was that the draw of Attack on Titan and the potential for a superb adaptation were undeniable, but that this was not that game, while USgamer told fans their time would be better spent rewatching the series. Destructoid was kinder with 7 out of 10, judging that the game could not escape the limits of the 3DS yet captured most of what makes the anime's world so captivating.
