Main characters

Eren Jaeger is the main protagonist and antagonist. After witnessing his mother being devoured by a Titan while escaping his hometown, he dedicates his life to eradicating Titans and joins the Survey Corps. He graduates fifth in his cadet class but is swallowed by a bearded Titan during his first mission in Trost. He reappears as a 15-meter Titan who fights other Titans, later revealed to be because his father killed the Reiss family and passed the Founding Titan and Attack Titan to Eren by having him eat him.

Eren's abilities make him a target for various factions. In the final arc, he unleashes millions of Colossal Titans in a genocidal crusade that wipes out 80% of humanity. The Survey Corps and Marleyan Warriors unite to stop him, and Mikasa ultimately kills him. Mikasa is Eren's childhood friend, taken in by his family after her parents were murdered.

She joins the Survey Corps to protect Eren, graduates top of her class, and is a descendant of the Ackerman clan, granting her super-soldier abilities.

Survey Corps

The Survey Corps is composed of expeditionary soldiers who venture outside the Walls to study Titans and fight them. They suffer high casualty rates but produce elite veterans. Their insignia is the Wings of Freedom. Erwin Smith, the 13th Commander, developed the Long-Range Scouting Formation to reduce deaths.

He orchestrated the 57th expedition to capture Annie, led a rescue for Eren, and staged a coup to place Historia in power. During the Shiganshina expedition, he was mortally wounded after sacrificing himself and recruits so Levi could attack the Beast Titan. Levi chose to let Erwin die in peace, giving the Titan serum to Armin instead. Hange, a bespectacled scientist and leader of 4th Squad, studies Titans and invents weapons like the Thunder Spears.

After losing an eye in battle, Hange succeeds Erwin as the 14th Commander and later forms an alliance with remaining members following Eren's message to all Subjects of Ymir.
