Kiyomi Azumabito

Hizuru's ambassador and Azumabito matriarch, Zeke's secret partner in restoring Eldia.

Kiyomi Azumabito is an ambassador from the Oriental nation of Hizuru and the matriarch of the Azumabito family, descendants of the former ruling Shogun clan. She first appears as a diplomat at the party held the night before Willy Tybur's stage presentation in Liberio.

Background

At the party she seems friendly toward ethnic Eldians, covering for the Warrior cadet Udo when he accidentally spills wine on her kimono. The next day she visits Willy backstage, passing the visit off as a wish to see his face and telling him she hopes he fulfils his duty without incident, but she leaves with her escort soon afterwards rather than staying for the stage production, which Eren and the Survey Corps go on to attack.

It later emerges that years earlier Kiyomi had secretly met Zeke Yeager, who offered to conspire with her to restore Eldia, a prospect that would benefit Hizuru, which had struggled diplomatically since the Great Titan War because of its historical alliance with Eldia. Kiyomi later leads a Hizuru delegation to Paradis to rekindle that alliance and reveals that Mikasa Ackerman's mother descended from an Azumabito cadet branch that migrated to the island.

She explains her arrangement with Zeke to the Paradis military, offering to help modernize Paradis in return for Historia inheriting Zeke's Titan power.
