Production
Amazon Studios first put the series into development on December 19, 2019, with Matt Hausfater as a co-creator. Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley joined Hausfater as co-creators and executive producers, with Titmouse, Inc.’s Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina also executive producing alongside Serious Business. Graphic designer Somehoodlum handled the character designs. The main voice cast—Skyler Gisondo, Kiersey Clemons, Peter S. Kim, and Jaboukie Young-White—was announced on September 29, 2021, alongside guest stars including Pamela Adlon, Yvette Nicole Brown, Rob Delaney, Zoey Deutch, John Leguizamo, Camila Mendes, Billy Porter, and Ben Schwartz.
Reception
The first season holds an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 12 critic reviews. Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter described the series as visually energetic and humorously frantic, with an exceptional voice cast, but more invested in name-dropping than substance. Megan Kirby of The A.V. Club gave a negative review, stating that the show only scratches the surface of the internet culture it depicts.
