Last updated
The Hasty Hare is a 1952 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon directed by Chuck Jones. It features Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian, and its title is a pun on the film The Hasty Heart. The short was released on June 7, 1952.
Plot
Marvin the Martian, referred to as Commander of the X2 vessel, travels to Earth. Upon landing, he opens his assignment envelope, which instructs him to return one Earth creature back to Mars, signed by General E=mc². With his dog K-9, who communicates by handing Marvin notes, he locates Bugs' rabbit hole. As they observe the hole, Bugs cleans out a bucket of carrot stems, pushing them back.
Assuming it is Halloween, Bugs gives them each a bag of treats. Marvin decides to use force, pulling out his disintegrating gun and atomizing a large hole where the rabbit hole was. Bugs shrieks before seeing the flying saucer. Marvin tells Bugs he is to come to Mars.
Bugs acts defiant but goes slightly insane when Marvin disintegrates a nearby rock and part of the ground. Bugs grabs bags and runs into the ship, then runs back out as a train conductor, calling out a departure for various planets. Marvin and K-9 rush onto the ship and fly off, then realize their mistake and return, with Marvin expressing anger. Bugs convinces Marvin he wants to go to Mars, then insinuates that K-9 is plotting mutiny.
Marvin nearly atomizes K-9, but K-9 pulls himself out of his helmet, asking what he did wrong. Bugs starts walking off, but Marvin and K-9 shoot him with an Acme straitjacket-ejecting bazooka. On the ship, Marvin pilots while K-9 watches Bugs, labeled as an over-confident Earth creature. Bugs convinces K-9 to let him try on something more sporty.
Once out of the straitjacket, Bugs ties K-9 up, grabs another jacket, and yells for everyone to desert the ship, wrapping Marvin in the spare straitjacket.
