Journey to Saturn

Danish astronauts journey to Saturn for natural resources.

Last updated

Journey to Saturn is a 2008 Danish adult computer-animated sci-fi comedy. Directed by Thorbjørn Christoffersen and Craig Frank, it was produced by A. Film A/S and loosely adapts Claus Deleuran's 1977 comic. The story follows Danish astronauts seeking resources on Saturn. The film satirizes Danish stereotypes and public figures, including the royal family and the then-prime minister.

Plot

A corporate-backed rocket launches from Denmark to explore and conquer Saturn for natural resources. The crew includes wannabe astronaut Per Jensen, military instructor Sgt. Arne Skrydsbøl, supply officer Fisse-Ole, tour chef Jamil Ahmadinejad, and two pilots. Upon arrival, the crew contacts aliens, but the Danish corporation's chief plans to conspire with the aliens to sell all of Earth's water except Greenland's. The mission was designed to fail, and the astronauts were never meant to return.

The aliens take over the Earth spaceship and head to Earth, mistaking a German pornographic film for instructions on friendly greetings. The astronauts are left for dead but fall through a black hole into Heaven, where they receive support. Guided by the Holy Spirit as a dove, they refuel and reach the Moon, encountering US astronauts at a secret lunar missile base. Using a US space surveillance system, they locate the water theft conspiracy on Earth.

The crew returns, rescues Per Jensen's girlfriend from the installation after a gunfight, defeats an alien monster with a keg of beer in a Jaws-like manner, and escapes as a nuclear bomb from the Moon destroys the installation.
