Justice League Dark: Apokolips War
The final chapter of the DC Animated Movie Universe.
Last updated
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is a 2020 American adult animated superhero film produced by Warner Bros. Animation and distributed by Warner Home Video. It is the 41st overall film of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the fifteenth and final feature film set in the first half of the DC Animated Movie Universe. The film brings together the Justice League, Justice League Dark, Teen Titans, and Suicide Squad against Darkseid.
Plot
Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, monitors the Justice League and Teen Titans through Cyborg as they form a plan against him. When the League arrives on Apokolips, hybrid creatures called Paradooms—created from Parademons and Doomsday using Superman's Kryptonian DNA—defeat them. Most League members and Titans die; survivors are enslaved or in hiding. Two years later, Darkseid's Reapers mine Earth's core.
Superman, depowered by liquid kryptonite tattoos, is released to live with guilt over his failed plan. The remaining heroes blame him. He finds Raven, who struggles to keep her father Trigon imprisoned. They recruit John Constantine, who fled the initial attack and left Zatanna to die, to locate Damian Wayne and free Batman.
Constantine finds Damian at a League of Assassins outpost; Damian reluctantly joins. In Metropolis, they meet Lois Lane, who has recruited the Suicide Squad led by Harley Quinn. Their plan: infiltrate LexCorp, use a Boom Tube to reach Apokolips, and kill Darkseid. While other heroes attack the Reapers, Lois, Lex Luthor, and the Squad defend the Boom Tube.
Clark, Damian, Raven, Constantine, and Etrigan the Demon infiltrate Apokolips. Batman, learning of Luthor's betrayal, sends Paradooms and new Furies after them.
Future
Screenwriter Ernie Altbacker teased a possible new project related to the DCAMU continuity, describing the ending as bittersweet yet hopeful. The DCAMU's second phase occasionally references events from the first phase. In May 2022, the short film Constantine: The House of Mystery was released, dealing with the aftermath of Apokolips War and setting the plot of the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths film trilogy.
