Plot

The Bilusaludo on the Aratrum rebel after Haruo destroys Mechagodzilla City, which they viewed as essential to defeating Godzilla. The humans counter that Haruo exposed the Bilusaludo's plan to take over Earth. The Bilusaludo cut power to the engine room, leaving the ship on secondary batteries for two days. On Earth, Dr. Martin informs Haruo that Yuko is brain-dead, kept alive by nanometal.

Houtua who survived the nanometal's absorption are tricked by Methphies into thinking their survival was a miracle. Methphies intends to summon the Exifs' god and needs Haruo's cooperation. Dr. Martin tells Haruo to lay low. The Houtua twins, Maina and Miana, take Haruo to a remote camp.

Miana explains her people only understand winning (surviving and creating life) or losing (dying). She says Haruo is losing and offers to connect life with him; he refuses.

When Maina makes the same offer, Haruo realizes she was the one who saved him, not Miana, and agrees. Miana catches Metphies telepathically contacting Endurph. The Exif reveals his scheme and captures her as she alerts Haruo and Maina.

Production

Post Haste Digital handled the English dub. Takayuki Hattori, scoring his fifth Godzilla film, returned for the soundtrack, with XAI back to sing the theme "Live and Die." Release

Godzilla: The Planet Eater closed out the Tokyo International Film Festival on November 3, 2018, before hitting Japanese theaters on November 9, 2018. It played across 158 screens, debuted in sixth place at the box office, and earned ¥100 million over its first three days, ultimately bringing in $1.5 million total. Netflix released the film globally on January 9, 2019. Critical reception was largely negative.

Joshua Meyer of /Film noted that the movie balances kaiju action with serious stakes and resolves character arcs from the trilogy, exploring thoughtful themes. Naoya Fujita of IGN scored it an 8.0, admitting that the first two parts felt tedious but calling this third installment a strong, emotionally satisfying conclusion. Patrick Galvan of Syfy Wire considered it the best of the three, commending how it develops its concepts instead of discarding them, yet still found the trilogy overall to be a dull, mediocre stretch in Godzilla history.
