Buttons and Mindy
A dog who keeps a wandering toddler out of danger and gets blamed for it.
Buttons and Mindy are the stars of a recurring Animaniacs segment. Buttons is a German Shepherd who watches over Mindy, a toddler, when her parents are away, and he risks his life to protect her.
Lore & Background
Mindy constantly wanders into trouble without being aware of it. Buttons struggles through one danger after another and narrowly rescues her, only to be wrongly blamed and punished by not getting a treat. Mindy often says goodbye to people with the phrase "Okay, I love you, bye-bye!" In Wakko's Wish, Buttons is rewarded with steak and not punished, because he kept Mindy safe.
Reader's Guide
Buttons' vocal effects are performed by Frank Welker and Mindy is voiced by Nancy Cartwright. The original series has 14 Buttons and Mindy segments. During development the pair were nearly rejected, until one of Steven Spielberg's children approved them.
