Hello Nurse and Yakko
The running gag behind the Warner brothers' favourite greeting.
Hello Nurse is the Warner Bros. studio nurse in Animaniacs, voiced by Tress MacNeille, and Yakko Warner is one of her most devoted admirers. Whenever she appears, Yakko and his brother Wakko greet her with a drawn-out "Hellooooooo, nurse!", sometimes leaping into her arms.
Lore & Background
The gag is not reserved for her: at times all three Warner siblings use the same greeting on other characters. The phrase was first meant as a catchphrase for Buster Bunny in Tiny Toon Adventures, and it is older still, having been used decades earlier in vaudeville shows. As the oldest sibling, obsessed with girls, Yakko is behind most of the show's adult humour.
Reader's Guide
In Wakko's Wish it is revealed that Hello Nurse has an IQ of 192 but is respected mainly for her looks. She is absent from the 2020 revival, whose makers judged the character out of step with the times; in the story, Dr. Scratchansniff says she has joined Doctors Without Borders.
