Mindy

The toddler who keeps Buttons on his toes—and off the couch!

Mindy is the toddler of the Buttons and Mindy segments of Animaniacs, voiced by Nancy Cartwright. She constantly wanders into trouble without being aware of it, and Buttons, the German Shepherd who watches her when her parents are away, narrowly rescues her each time.

Lore & Background

For his trouble Buttons is wrongly blamed and punished by not getting a treat, usually by Mindy's mother, whose face is never shown. Mindy calls her mother "Lady" and her father "Mr. Man", and often says goodbye to people with the phrase "Okay, I love you, bye-bye!" The segments have no continuity: most of them show her family in a different setting, as superheroes, space colonists or cave dwellers.

Reader's Guide

The episode list credits Buttons and Mindy with 14 segments. In the film Wakko's Wish, Buttons is rewarded with steak for keeping Mindy safe, and Mindy finally calls her mother "Mom".
