Slappy Squirrel

A grumpy retired cartoon star with a taste for old-style slapstick violence.

Slappy Squirrel is an anthropomorphic squirrel in Animaniacs, voiced by Sherri Stoner: a grumpy old retired cartoon star who lives in a tree with her nephew Skippy. She is nostalgic for the screwball, comically violent style of older cartoons and behaves accordingly.

Lore & Background

Her longtime nemesis is Walter Wolf, who resents his career as the luckless villain of her cartoons; his associates Sid the Squid and Beanie the Brain-Dead Bison are her foes as well. Skippy, voiced by Nathan Ruegger, has a chipper personality that is the opposite of his aunt's, and their shorts often play on the generation gap between old and modern cartoons. The character grew out of a suggestion by Sherri Stoner, and the music of her segments draws on Antonín Dvořák's Humoresques.

Reader's Guide

The episode list credits Slappy with 28 segments of the original series, and Sherri Stoner voices her again in the film Wakko's Wish. In the 2020 revival she comes back for a single short, "Slappy's Return", in the final episode: she has retired to Pensacola, Florida, where her overexcited fans are thrilled to find that she still insults them.
