Incite was formed in late 2004. After performing locally and with Richie Cavalera appearing on Soulfly's album Dark Ages and Cavalera Conspiracy's Inflikted, the band released an EP in 2007 titled Divided We Fail. The track 'Army of Darkness' was the first posted on MySpace. In 2007, the original lineup was overhauled, leaving Richie Cavalera as the sole original member. The debut LP The Slaughter was released in 2009, followed by tours with Soulfly and The Dillinger Escape Plan, though the group soon parted ways with their label.

After signing with Minus Head Records, Incite released their sophomore album All Out War in November 2012, produced by former Machine Head and Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader. The album was supported by the Maximum Cavalera Tour with Soulfly and Lody Kong. During this period, guitarist Dis left and was replaced by Gene Macazan. In 2013, drummer Zak Sofaly, bassist Luis Marrufo, and guitarist Gene Macazan left for personal reasons, replaced by Derek Lopez, Christopher 'EL' Elsten, and Dru Rome. This lineup recorded Up in Hell (2014), Oppression (2016), and Built to Destroy (2019). After Built to Destroy, Rome was replaced by Eli Santana.

The band's sixth album, Wake Up Dead, was originally set for March 25, 2022, but was postponed to April 8 due to manufacturing issues. Incite played Toledo Death Fest in 2023. In March 2025, they released a music video for 'Just a Rat' as the first single from their upcoming seventh album Savage New Times, followed by 'No Mercy No Forgiveness' a month later.
