Description

The show's format was based on BBC's Dance X, which also starred Bruno Tonioli. Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba each chose and trained a rival team of amateur performers who could both sing and dance. The teams competed against each other, and the winning team at the end of the season received a recording deal with Hollywood Records. After the audition show, the top 14 contestants were reduced to two teams of six (three males and three females), with two contestants eliminated. In subsequent live shows, the teams competed in various dance styles, and viewers voted for their favorite team. The captain of the losing team had to pick one of their own members to leave the competition.

Auditions

In the first show, the fourteen finalists were chosen. They performed "Let's Get Loud" by Jennifer Lopez. In the second show, all the men sang "Hold On! I'm a Comin'" by Sam and Dave, then were divided into two groups: one performed "Hard To Handle" by the Black Crowes, the other performed "Larger Than Life" by the Backstreet Boys.

Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli then chose their teams, with Carrie Ann picking first for the men. All the women then sang "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer, and were split into two groups: the first performed "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher, the second performed "Lady Marmalade" in the style of Christina Aguilera, Mýa, Pink, and Lil' Kim. Bruno picked first for the women. The remaining six dancers sang again: the men performed "The End Of The Road" by Boyz II Men, the women performed "Survivor" by Destiny's Child.

Bruno chose Phillip and Charity; Carrie Ann chose Marqis (Qis) and Allysa, eliminating Maxx and Corina. For week 3, the theme was "Pop Music". All members opened with "Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls. In the first round, Team Bruno performed "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis vs JXL, and Team Carrie Ann performed "Run It" by Chris Brown.

In the second round, Team Bruno performed "SOS" by Rihanna, and Team Carrie Ann performed "Call Me" by Blondie. The show closed with all members performing "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.
